distant horizon

Rule of thirds - broken as the horizon is set to the centre line, creating a balance between sky and seashore. The shot was taken into the sun, causing the groyne to be backlit and silhouetted against highlights.

Thanks John, Rod and Lonnit, I'm normally disappointed with the results when I shoot into the sun, but occasionally the results work and breaking rules can get good results!.

Qualified only on the silhouetting. Rule of thirds applies as follows: lower edge of groin sits on lower thirds line. Groin ends at right thirds line. Follow the groin out in an imaginary line and it exits the frame at the upper right thirds line. :) I'm telling you people, you're not going to get this breaking of the rule of thirds past me easily. It is the one thing that you will find in virtually EVERY image i shoot. I put a grid over EVERY image and crop whatever most minscule amount I might have to to force that rule. I take no prisoners. Think again if you dare think you're going to get one over on me here! I don't give much of a crap about your middle horizon b/c you've got the strength of thirds supporting it elsewhere. ADHERING to the rule of thirds is what allowed you to get away with breaking the horizon rule. Know it and thank it b/c it just saved your butt! ;) LOL! ~ Lonnit

I'm not sure you are breaking the 1/3 rule here Maurice in that the subject starts at about 1/3 and leads into the horizon. But I agree with the silhouette. John
