Nassco *

San Diego, CA

Just up the street from the 32nd Street Naval Base is National Steel and Shipbuilding Company -- NASSCO --

Taken from their website... "NASSCO has been designing and building ships since 1960, specializing in auxiliary and support ships for the U.S. Navy and oil tankers and dry cargo carriers for commercial markets. Located in San Diego, California, NASSCO employs more than 4,000 people and is the only major ship construction yard on the West Coast of the United States."

Wider angle would have just shown stuff that deterred the composition plus I wanted to get the sign. That is the beauty of a zoom lens. To really get the full effect of this ship yard I would have needed a helicopter to get up and above all the buildings and since my copter is in the shop right now so I had to settle for this. :-) dorys

this picture doesn't show the magnatude of how big this ship yard is. if you go to NASSCO's website you'll see the shot I wish I could take. www.nassco.com. I may try to go out this coming weekend and get a shot from the Coronado Bridge. Dorys

4,000 people work there! That must be some ship building yard. Thanks for the tour of San Diego Dorys. You went to a lot of trouble which has paid off in an excellent entry. Very well done:-)
