Warm By The Fire*

The first time we lit up the fire this starting cold season. The only PS work done in this hopefully final post , is some levels , some highlights revealed and a touch of sharpness.

edit: Moved to exhibition.

Thanks Tracy :-) Though I still don't know which photo I'll leave in, I like both of them!

I didn't see your 1st shot, so can't compare. What I do know is that this image gives off heat, and lots of it. Living here in Canada, that's a godsend. Thank you Techo for warming my day!

Cheers - Tracy!

You're right Victor. Well, next time, I'll both a under and a bit over exposed the photo of the same scene, and combine them. I so very much like the glow but the fire was too rapid. I'll resumbit the previous photo with a tad less brightness.

I liked the previous version better. In my opinion, those flames look too yellow. Is this a case where the converter is making a guess at the color for an area where a channel is clipped and missing the mark? At least that's how it looks to me. -- Victor

edit: updated, so less of those you know... blown highlights ;-)

Thanks for everyone's great comments. It was family and friend get together so I didn't want to poke around in front of everyone. I have a few other shots and I'll have some time to do some PS work a little bit later today :-) so I hope to improve the photo. It was my first time taking this kind of fireplace photo, some photos looked too blurry , so I was quite happy this one came out almost right.

nice effect overall. i especially like the hot embers beneath the main fire. i do agree with rod that the while flames make it almost seem too hot for a comfy fireplace. dorys.

Wow an atomic powered fire, they say white heat is really hot :-) The white part of the flame just takes away from the comfy feeling. Could you take your exposure close to the brightest part of the flame & then lighten the rest of the shot in PS. Or turn your room lights on full & you may get a similar effect without the white bits. (I’m trying not to say blown highlights):-)Nice shot again Techo.

I was hoping to do something like this, but our fire isn't anywhere near as nice looking as that one! Well captured, a very warm comfortable image.
