Center.....Off-Centered

Milton Keynes, UK

Wanted to do something with fruit for this challenge - tried some stuff with Lemons but they seemed very reflective and looked blown out. Just loved the colours of these nectarines, but wanted to reduce it to the center's to highlight the idea of the *real* center being removed and 'off-centered'.

Neil, Sww, Thanks for your comments. I tried it all in colour but it looked uninterestng, maybe I didn't take it well enough. I like the idea of greater contrast in the greys - I might try and do that to it! Many thanks!

I initially thought you had a very strange looking type of fruit in the UK. I might be thick, but it took me a while to work out that you got rid of the colour. I like fruit to look appetising (I can't spell either). I would prefer to see it all in colour, or else just the stone in colour. However that's just my opinion - it look very good, and you should be very happy with it.

I appreciate how the color adjustments draw your attention to the centers, but I think this might have more punch with greater contrast between the gray of the fruit and the white background. Very interesting and well executed. I found myself going back to look at this several times.

Thanks Iso - I'll await the full version on your website! BTW - not sure if you thought it was - bt the shadows were actually from the lighting - they just got jagged in PS.

What am I, some kind of forum Guru? LOL ... Yes it is better. There are many ways to achieve the perfect white background and shadowing in photoshop but it would take too long to type here ;-) Looking forward to seeing your next....

Thanks Jadzia, Iso - tried blurring edges - what do we think now? Better?

Love this Paul. You could try blurring the shadow edges a bit with the bur tool.

Iso, many thanks - was hoping you'd comment. I spotted the harsh shadows and believe its because I 'deleted' the real white background because it wasn't white enough for what I was trying to achieve. Do you ever do that or do you just make sure you get a white enough background? Can I fix it in PS do you think? Thanks. Paul.

I like the effect you've achieved here. The centres really stand out in a mouthwatering kind of way and I don't really notice that it's because the rest has been desaturated. Only crit is that the edges of the shadows look a bit hard. Good stuuf.
