Excellent image Trav. Right on target for the challenge and facinating to look at too. With all the flooding in recent years makes you wonder if those shacks are a bit precariously placed, and wonder who lives in the new house on stilts at the top of the gulley. Someone with brains and power I'd guess! Regards, Najinsky

Good stuff Traveller, this brings back memories, good ole Harry. Must have been late 50's or early 60's? I even remember the words... that's a worry??? ~ Regards Melbob

Here's the whole song....I now wonder if it is as good as we remember it...or, as children, we just enjoyed singing it a lot among ourselves?

A small snip of the song is here. I'll try to find a bigger one.

Thanks for all the comments. I wish there were a website that I could link the song to....so that it would just come up and play for everyone.

This is right on topic - a really nice trashy picture :-)

I'm sure it's on a Harry Belafonte CD...probably a "best of" one. I have it on an old vinyl 33 rpm album, and I can remember when it was #1 on TV's "Your Hit Parade." Omigosh, am I really that old???

Every time I hear that song, it sounds to me like he's saying "taranchtla". Listen next time and see if you agree. Anyone notice the dead piece of banana stem in the foreground? BTW, I've seen tarantulas in banana plants. Usually, they were small (for a tarantula), black ones hiding in the tube formed by a new leaf. -- Victor

And I couldn't spell/type either - sang - not song!

Hee, hee, hee....that's my purpose in life, Olaf, to place little snippets of songs into your head to drive you crazy....lol

Full Lyrics here....and it is a fun song, easy to get hooked on:

Harry Belafonte - Banana Boat Song (day-o) Lyrics

Day-o, day-o
Daylight come and me wan' go home
Day, me say day, me say day, me say day
Me say day, me say day-o
Daylight come and me wan' go home

Work all night on a drink of rum
Daylight come and me wan' go home
Stack banana till de mornin' come
Daylight come and me wan' go home

Come, Mister tally man, tally me banana
Daylight come and me wan' go home
Come, Mister tally man, tally me banana
Daylight come and me wan' go home

Lift six foot, seven foot, eight foot bunch
Daylight come and me wan' go home
Six foot, seven foot, eight foot bunch
Daylight come and me wan' go home

Day, me say day-o
Daylight come and me wan' go home
Day, me say day, me say day, me say day...
Daylight come and me wan' go home

A beautiful bunch o' ripe banana
Daylight come and me wan' go home
Hide the deadly black tarantula
Daylight come and me wan' go home

Lift six foot, seven foot, eight foot bunch
Daylight come and me wan' go home
Six foot, seven foot, eight foot bunch
Daylight come and me wan' go home

Day, me say day-o
Daylight come and me wan' go home
Day, me say day, me say day, me say day...
Daylight come and me wan' go home

Come, Mister tally man, tally me banana
Daylight come and me wan' go home
Come, Mister tally man, tally me banana
Daylight come and me wan' go home

Day-o, day-o
Daylight come and me wan' go home
Day, me say day, me say day, me say day
Me say day, me say day-o
Daylight come and me wan' go home

Best Wishes, Traveller

OK, I could have googled first, but now I did and found it was Harry Belafonte who song it. Anyway - I'll let the first comment sit where it is, it might amuse some...

Hey, mr. T - I know that song! - and you got it stuck in my head, so now am singing it around the house and my wife asks: "why are you singing about the Taliban?"
Me: "Don't you know that song? It's a classic!"
Her, skeptically: "A classic? - I've never heard of it! Who song it?"
Me: "Er, I don't know - perhaps it's from an old Peter Sellers Movie or something..."
So Traveller, please, can you clear the mystery for us?
