I thought I'd already commented on this one, but apparently not. Beautiful! Love the delicate, luminescent veins. --Melanie

Beautiful work once again Cat very delicate and yet detailed. I do take Lonnit's point that its not one's usual background colour preference but your reasoning is logical and it works with this subject. ... Perhaps though. a very slight/delicate light gradient for the background might enhance the 'mood' of this image?

It is interesting that the subtle differences and individuality of each seed pod /wing allows the otherwise complete symmetry, to work.

Skillful work Cat, I would be most interested in your "blurb". ~ Regards Melbob

I have admired x-ray photography after coming upon the www.xray-art.com site mentioned below just a few weeks ago and was very much inspired by it. So what a nice coincidence to see this shot. Very nice job here X photographer. My bet's on Cat. It that you?

Thank you all !!! for your such positive feedbacks!!! Initially I was not sure how this will turn out. Yes, these are maple seeds. And yes this was done on glass. And the unusual color of the background was actually selected with a dropper from one of the seed's translucent wings. Some of you do not fancy this color, however I am going to keep this color for now, because its nearest to the natural colors and shade of the seeds themselves. Understand however that it can be easily changed to any hue very easily if need be. Color hues are like salt in gourmet recipies. Add it to your taste. I am just keeping it to what salt it came with :)

To answer Lee's question: These are not based particularly on any artist's style. I like doing arrangments of simple things and wanted to do something more than just the natural dogwood I posted earlier done with X-rays techniques that I am exploring for this challenge. However if you need references to a good X-ray artist: One of my favorite ones is "Steve N. Meyers" he sells lot of such art work, and is fairly popular in e-bay, amazon, and several poster and art sites. Here are links to his work for
dogwood:http://www.xray-art.com/012hr.htm and for
maple seeds:http://www.xray-art.com/014hr.htm andhttp://www.xray-art.com/004hr.htm

Regarding how this and dogwood are actually done: These are *NOT* actual radiographs done on x-ray films. A typical radiograph done by Steve N. Meyers would be an actual x-ray on rontgent machine which costs more than ~$50,000. Also there is no camera involved. Whereas these are taken with 20D and processes in PS in a manner to make the final result look like x-ray radiograph. And about the actual technique I am using, I have not yet seen or aware of any work on similar lines attempted in PS prior to what I have posted in this challenge. It might be first of its kind although I can't say that authoritatively yet. Also I am still perfecting the technique and have been working from several angles to achieve these from past few months (I have posted some unusual flower texture shots in CTF few challenges back, relates partly to the texture enhancing technique used here too) and thus I may not be able to go in great details step by step, but might just give a general blurb soon. I hope you all understand the reasoning behind all this.
I might have just given a clue to my identity here :)
Cheers,
~artist

I like the background color. It is in character of the seed pods.

Absolutely lovely concept and execution, however, I agree with Lonnit's background comment. -Michael

This is quite cool. My gut reaction is to side with Lonnit on shade preference, but maybe it is nice to see a less commonly used color here. Beautiful work.

Winged seeds of the maple tree, presented as I've never seen them before. This is really quite beautiful, altho it reminds me of the NBC or CBS logo.

Oh, that is truly fabulous! As a personal color preference, I don't like the background color at all - a slight tint in any direction would be better, but it does not detract from the beauty and perfection of the image. Kudos! ~ Lonnit
