9th Place The Godfather by Amy Medina (aka. DRabbit)

Long Island, NY

This required a LOT of PP. The chair wasn't the right style chair, so I had to make it so... and because the chair wasn't right, he obviously wasn't sitting exactly right when he was "transposed" into his new seat. If you saw his feet you'd laugh... he's barefoot! (in the picture from the movie promo you don't see his feet) -- Cloning to fix blemishes, wrinkles in suit, shadows virtually airbrushed in -- Converted to B&W (channel mixer), made into sepia tone (color balance) and lots of dodging and burning, local contrast enhancement, sharpening, a little noise added.

Very first REAL photo taken with my new 5D :)

The original I posted wasn't the one I worked from... the one I downloaded from the net is actually in sepia tones and not square.
I also enjoyed giving all my entrys the aspect ration similar to a movie... seemed suiting to the theme :)

Fantastic!! Great work! Pretty close match with the original. Was wondering, why didn't you square crop it like the original? -Cat

LOL Lonnit... all I can say is that my model was VERY uncomfortable. That suit was buried so far into the closet it's amazing we found it and it still fit! ;)

Wow! How the heck did you get the exact same chair? Ok, it's the BW treatment that alters the genre, which is your responsibility - the rest is in your models lap. He did not capture the attidude. In the original, he is staring directly into the camera, with a look of complete control and an air of "cross me and I'll kill you" and there's no doubt he means it. He is in total command of the situation. Your model, OTOH, is not looking into the camera, therefor, he has no command of it. He also has tension in his lips, right hand, and upper torso. These things make him look like he is suspicious of something, and quite tense. The other guy would never be suspicious - he would know, dead to rights, if something was going on or not, and he'd do something about it. He is so confident that he is completely relaxed in posture - even slouching - face, and hands. He has no worries b/c he is king. The only tension anyplace in his body, is in the cold, hard stare of his eyes. Your model is highly tensed, ready to leap from that chair in a moment's notice. The other would not even get up - he'd simply give a barely detectable nod, and the deed would be done. But hey, did you pay your model as much as they paid thiers? ;) As for your part, you were great! ~ Lonnit

Well done Amy - I didn't even need your title to tell what this was about! Great PP work too. CJ

Very nicely done. I'm not familiar with the original image promo image - do you have a link? I was surprised to read this and see Godfather, b/c that's not the vibe I'm getting from it. I thought it was something from a horror movie. Ok, yes, the movie had plenty of horror, LOL!, but that wasn't the genre. Now, don't get me wrong, it's an excellent picture (and congrats on the new camera. It's in good hands!), it just seems inaccurately titled. I'm very curious to see the original, and see what vibe it is putting out. ~ Lonnit

Brilliant PP. My vote.

Did you use a texture for the chair? I am asking because the fiber is only going horizontal on all faces. :-)
