Bending the rules, eh? I generally don't think about the rules much, if I even know them. I try to capture what I see. In this case, what I saw was a plant that I've been admiring for years putting on an unusual amount of floriferousness. Normally, just one or two flowers are presented. The plant itself was presenting its inflorescences away from each other (a third one with buds is being held nearly straight down). So this crop was an attempt to emphasize how the plant was presenting its flowers. I wanted a slightly lower angle, but this is as low as my tripod would go comfortably.

Compositionally, I liked the way the pot and the flower stems complemented each other. At first I kept the same amount of space between the flowers and the edge of the picture on each side, but then I realized the doublet required more negative space for balance. I have no idea what rule would specify that, but that's what looked good to me. The bottom margin of the picture was dictated by the plant's leaves.

By the way, this one is my daughter's favorite.

An interesting dichotomy here? I like it yet the subjects tend to be in conflict to a degree. I feel the urge to crop one and move it closer so as to form a cluster... but that is not what it is? The RHS image cropped about half-width makes a nice shot .. but that is image 2 I guess. "You like bending the rules"... don't you Victor? I like that ~ Bob.

I'm probably going to keep only one of these three flower pictures, but I need help choosing which one. I suppose if someone forced me to choose right now, I'd choose to keep the first one I posted and remove the second one first. What do you think? I know this one is too wide, but those flowers are so tiny, it's hard to see any detail if the image size is smaller. -- Victor
