This picture, like "Ray" was taken at Esthers Follies, a
cabaret located on 6th Street in Austin, TX. Ray Anderson
(rayandersonmagic.com) is the resident magician/escape
artist. One of the things he does in his routine is a robot
impression. Part of his routine involves invading the
personal space of various people in the audience. Here you
see him after having done a sort of robot dance in the isle,
maneuvering to a victim where he collapses into standing
repose, motionless for perhaps a minute, as his victim
become increasingly uncomfortable, to the benefit of the
audience.
I was seated in the front row, the victim was seated a
couple of rows behind me. Lighting was by a spotlight from
the rear of the audience. "Ray" was taken during another
part of the same routine. Obviously, for best effect, you
need to see the routine in person. Unique to Esthers
Follies, you can see the act no only from within the theater
but also through a window behind the main stage. But beware,
should you choose to do so. You may become the star
attraction, since 6th Street is visibile behind the stage
from the point of view of the audience, and Ray frequently
makes use of the impromptu guest stars.
