* LLLonnit's LLLamp

Attempting to read in bed last night,
I happened to glance over at my lamp,
I loved the way it looked against the
freshly painted red wall. I couldn't
resist the urge to get my camera and
take several frames.

My vote goes to this image because of all the images, including the Strawberry + Cream one this image demonstrates how one color dominantes over the another color(s) in an image and does so in a very appealing manner. Although the red is striking the green overwhelms it here and stands out against the black background. Well done.

I like this image too. The green obviously dominates the both the red and the dark background. Nicely composed and exposed. Love the light on that lamp shade. I think the Strawberry + Cream and this image are my 2 favorites.

Yes, Victor, it is indeed the lampshade that masked the red. The whole background was indeed red. I just brought down the black point in the upper half so that it faded from red to black. The red part showing was the brightest portion of red on the wall, of course.

As for the 'flack', Victor... As you see, I did not banish many images to pending. Out of the approx 250 images entered in the challenge, only about 8 made it to pending, and of those, a portion were put there by their owners. I also left them up for some time in thier enterd galleries to let others see them and have the opportunity to voice their opinions. Had anyone come to the defense of said images, and attempted to convince me I was in error, I would have entertained the discussion and probably would have allowed them to remain. The images were not defended so it was apparent to me I was not in error in my judgement. I allowed room for people to judge the eligibility according to their own discretion, but I also candidly spoke my points about precisely why any image was quesionable, if I thought it was questionable. I did NOT banish any questionable images. If you look in pending, I'm sure you will agree that any image there is there for a reason. ~ Lonnit :)

LOL Victor. Well I thought there would some light spill, just a little perhaps? Then I guess the levels darkened them out. But still, if Lonnit wants to share any tips, I'll takem all! she did say "The whole wall was red and I brought it all way down so there's only the bit at the bottom." so I thought there was a lot more red in the original.

Techo, I'm guessing it was the use of a lampshade. The best color to block out light from a red wall would be a green lampshade. Hmmmm. ;-) Victor

I like it a lot. The geometry of the shot really appeals to me. Well as for the Red you can easily selectivly hue that portion to green if you like. So there wont be anymore controversy ;) Im wondering though what technic you used to so evenly mask out the red from the rest of the photo. Any tips?
Thanks

So.......... Looks like you finally painted the bedroom red!! Have to agree with Gayle though. Victor has put it nicely too. Am not sure if this one screams "green" at me, but if you say so.... I won't complain ;-) -Cat

Lonnit, if you think this one doesn't toe the line then Angela's flower picture with the saturated blue doesn't either. And who brought the issue up that time? You have more black than she does, and the red is about as brilliant in this picture as the blue is in hers. Furthermore, the brilliant non-dominant color is complementary to the dominant color both in yours and in hers. -- Victor

Well, Lonnit, I am glad that you're not sending a lot of images to pending. People really do try hard and, in my humble opinion, you do have to cut them a little bit of slack. I know you are a person of strong opinion, but a lot of other people here are artists also. To even produce work requires a certain belief in what you're doing and hence a strong opinion about it also.

When you come down on people by and large you are usually correct, and yet, and yet....there is a certain fuzziness to the topic and as you have defined it. It needs to be acknowledged that the challege has gone extremely well and I sense that people have truly tried to comply with your wishes...but it must be remembered that they have feelings and opinions also.

I'm not referring to myself, God knows that I deserve a slap upside the head from time to time, and your direction to me has been beneficial for what I am trying to do with photography, though granted it is still not exactly what you might want.

So for me, there is no problem but other people may wound easily, the galleries look great and I think it is wise of you, within reason, to leave this alone. I don't think you're doing this, however, should be attributed to a fear of catching too much flak...I would prefer you saying inside yourself that it is just a wise decision because it is.

This seemed like a discreet place to post my thoughts on the subject.

Best Wishes,
Traveller

Well, if everyone else is going to to it! LOL! I was waiting for you guys to chime in! LOL! Green is definitely the dominant color here, with the red not being enough to overpower it. The whole wall was red and I brought it all way down so there's only the bit at the bottom. The green is large enough, and has enough brightenss to be the dominant force. Yes, you can glance down and see the red, but your eye pops right back up to the brightest part of the green. I've let a load of images, way closer to the line than this, remain. Actually there are images I'd really like to send to pending, but I don't feel like dealing with the flack. So, I'm approving this, no problem! :) ~ Lonnit

you are SO busted.
Gayle Knowles09-Jan-2006 10:35
Ummm....'scuse me, but I thought the topic was about one colour, spilling out of the frame. This looks like a lamp against a red wall. Gosh, if the host can't get it right, what hope have the rest of us got?
