This is so cool! For some reason, it's even better knowing that it's a photo of a "real" scene and not a Photoshop composite. I just love the way the cables vanish to a point wayyyy up there. Excellent!

Thanks guys - you are all very kind. Alexeig, this is not a composite. Here are a few more shots that show it better -http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1019&message=15663297
They come down from the top in clusters of 4 parrallel cables arranged in a square of about 12 inches (?) per side. The cables run on the outside of the bridge railing and join onto the support structure below the deck. Thanks, Cindy

Love it.

Cindy, this is fabulous! You really used the fog to your advantage here - it complements this unique perspective so perfectly! - in a way simplifying the image by toning down the other wires, putting the emphasis on this quartet and the 'tower'. The Golden Gate Bridge is probably the most photographed bridge in the world and you managed to find a new take on it!

This is also a success story of what these challenges can produce. Hunting for pictures fitting a certain theme, your horizons broaden and you think of pictures you'd never thought of otherwise. Of course, knowing you, you just may have thought of putting your camera in that position anyway!

This is very impressive. Good that you have written what it is: I would never guess. And even now I have a difficulty understanding exactly how these suspension cables are placed within a bridge. Or is it a composite?

Very interesting, and the sort of shot that lends itself to different orientations. -Doctah

Very dramatic - and the mist works well.
