I also use this technique quite a lot - I use software from www.tawbaware.com to do this... (not this one though). I think the results are excellent.

Ed, Grant once did an interesting alternative to ND-filters: he took many shots (30?) of the scene and then blended them in Photoshop - the result was similar to the use of ND-filters. I wish I could find the shot and provide a link, but I don't have the time to go looking. It is in one of the past challenges though.
This has your signature feel to it. FWIW, how much ND filtering was necessary for this shot and what were the ambient light conditions at the time? I tried doing some longer exposures like this while on vacation, and found that I didn't have nearly enough ND filter even at minimum aperture (f22) on the lens being used, even at iso100... -Ed Hahn
