Victor,
I used Adobe RGB. Thanks for your suggestions. I will try some of them over the weekend! Roberta

Roberta,

Sorry to monopolize the comment area, but I just noticed that this picture looks better when AdobeRGB is assigned as the color space. Did you perhaps work it in AdobeRGB and then not convert to sRGB before posting to the web? -- Victor

Roberta, Since you asked for suggestions to correct the color, I tested an idea to correct the cheek. I changed the mode to lab mode and did some cloning and blurring on the a and b channels. The idea is that skin is relatively uniform in hue and saturation and that the important detail is in the lightness channel. By switching to lab mode, you can even out the a and b channels without affecting lightness. -- Victor

Roberta,

Thanks for your explanation. My objection, I guess, is more with the cheek coloring, and yes, it is the upper cheek area where it seems to be off. I was going to say that it looked like she was recovering from a bruise from being punched in the cheekbone. I want to make something perfectly clear, though. I really like the picture. I tried to make that clear by mentioning that first. Oh, and your blurring explanation no doubt explains what I was seeing when I referred to Neatimage. -- Victor

I was hoping that the unblurred image would be better, but since you had to retouch the cheek, I guess the blurring helps to conceal that. I still think you should not have blurred part of the hand, but as you say, it's a matter of personal taste.

I noticed some discoloration on the cheek, but it's very subtle and probably doesn't need to be fixed. Changing WB would mess up the colors everywhere else. --Garrett

Hi Garrett, Olaf and Victor,
Sorry you don't like it but it is a matter of personal taste. I appreciate your honesty. The colors have not been manipulated with the exception of using the sponge tool to very slightly saturate her lips. I do not have Neat Image. I used a layer to add a slight gaussian blur on her skin then erased parts of the layer around the hair, eyes, lips and most of the hand and dandelion so they would not be affected by the layer. I am very fond of the image with the exception of the cheek coloring. She is a teenager and she had a recent rash on her upper cheek. Maybe that's it but the rash was on her upper right cheek...not the center of the cheek. Maybe my WB was off. Do you have any advice for color correcting? It's tricky because it depends on the monitor in many cases. I feel the soft skin works in harmony with the airy mood the image conveys. Again, thank you for your comments and please feel free to give me your honest opinions! Roberta

I didn't want to be the first to post a negative comment, but now that Victor has posted one, I have to agree with him. The softening of the skin looks artificial. The rest of the image is great, though. --Garrett

Roberta, while I agree with everybody else that this is a great photo, I feel that the selective sharpening/blurring in post is taken a bit too far and looks slightly unnatural. I hope I am not stepping on your toes by mentioning this, as you don't have an asterisk in the title. I do it with the best of intentions. Like I said, it is a great photograph and I like it very much. Great idea too! --Olaf

My original reaction was that this was a great image. But, and I hate to be a naysayer, the image looks like it was overly processed with Neatimage or something. And there's something not quite right about the colors on the face, especially around the cheek, making it looks a bit livery, if you know what I mean. Maybe it's an overuse of smoothing of the skin that I don't like. -- Victor

One thing I especially like about this is the softness of her face and the sharpness of the focus on the dandilion and her hand. I also love the lighting. Beautiful! Ann C
