An idea I just got when looking down at my jacket.

Thanks Georgia!
Just to not mislead anyone, the jacket/sweater is the black part but the patterned fabric is a scarf I put in under the zipper for the shot, it's not the lining. And yes - I did arrange, re-arrange, shoot, re-shoot for quite some time... :-)

FretNoMore is on a roll! Another fantastic image for this challenge! I can't imagine how many times you shot this jacket and how many different ways you arranged it to get it just right. It would have been tempting to show more of the striking lining, but you prudently resisted. We are shown just enough, and the zipper leads our eye right to it. Very well done!
(BTW, it's a very cool jacket too!)

Yes, you'er correct - I wouldn't want to see the pattern central in the frame, just more centred in the corner (if that makes sense). Phil

Phil,

Let me see if I understand. You don't really want the pattern to be central, as in in the middle of the image, but centered on a line connecting the diagonal corners of the picture, right? I hope so, because centering the pattern in the picture would ruin it. -- Victor

Thanks Phil, I have thought about the tip of the pattern, but I decided to let it slip as I don't want to re-do the whole thing. But it's noted, so next time I'll remember. :-)

Like pretty much everyone else, I think this is great, and has really set the standard.
If I'm to be ultra-critical, I'd have liked the pattern to have been absolutely central, and for the "point" to go right into the corner (if you see what I mean). Phil

Thanks!
It is not a fake, but it has been "improved" by exaggerating the contrast and colors. The black is a black fleece fabric that I in post processing adjusted down to pure black just to get as much contrast as possible against the zipper and the patterned fabric. From the challenge rules: "There is no limit to the amount of image modification (Photoshop, etc.) so go nuts!", so I did. :-) Here's a small version of the original.

Wow. Amazing shot. It look almost like a fake. Incredible. Will we have a winner here? ;)

Hi Anders,
I think black works very well as a background to the 2 patterns, of the scarf and of the zipper. Nice.
Canon DSLR Challenge15-Mar-2004 20:56
Roberta, Tabs, Alex - thanks!
Tabs, I agree, the black in the patterned area was a good thing, it does help bring the two parts together. I'd like to say it was by design, but it was just luck, or at least it wasn't a conscious choice! :-)

Really nice composition (diagonal zipper) and color combination.

I really like and agree with others comments. I think that the touch of black in the pattern also helps pull it together with the pure black area.

It is stunning with a superb composition. The dark fabric contrasts nicely with the zipper and the vibrant patterns and colors complete the image. Excellent clarity as well. Roberta

Teapot, Paul - first time anyone called one of my pictures stunning, I'm... stunned. :-)
Thanks!

A stunning, elegantly simple composition, and I love the contrast between the rich colors and the black fabric.

Wow! What a stunning shot. Anders you have certainly set the standard in this challenge already. A visual masterpiece.

Thanks Olaf, that's very nice of you!
I'm not sure I want to win though, second place seems optimal! :-)

Anders, with the general quality of your shots, you are doomed to win one of these challenges - sooner rather than later. This is a great shot! Great idea and perfectly executed! --Olaf

I keep coming back to look at this image. It is very compelling. I like the way the image is drawn on the diagonal. I like the complete blackness in contrast to the vivid colors. I even like the position of the zipper handle. The pattern of the teeth in the zipper work very well and the pattern of the revealed material work very well for me too. I really like this image. Wonderful! E-

I like this very much. I like the simplicity of the zipper in the black shirt with the bright pattern in the shirt beneath. Great combination of color and design. Ann C
