Thanks for your differing feedback. I had a couple of objectives in taking this photo. 1. To use a minimum amount of colour for maximum impact. 2. To capture her face with a dreamy, faraway look (hence the title "Wishes and Dreams"). I deliberately chose a focus point slightly left of her eye socket so her profile would be soft. I may be wrong but I don't think the eye(s) must always be in sharp focus. In this case, the little girl is wishing and dreaming...her eyes are not focused on anything and therefore this should be carried over to the photo. Gayle

I like this image, the link to the challenge is well thought out, I tend not to follow the rules that much as I see an image for it's initial capture value. to me the focus is the whole image as opposed to the obsessive issue of eye focus. The space on the right is also very good. nice take as it is rob mc

Counterpoint: When I look at this picture, if I see a problem, it's not with the sharpness of the eye it is with the eye itself. It looks like the model was watching the photographer out of the corner of her eye. Because of this, we want to see her eye in more detail. If the model had looked ever so slightly to the left of where she's looking, the focus would return to the hair bands, and softness around the face would work better. --Victor

Gayle: Not to pile it on, but I agree with Roberta and Phil on the focus target. Though the hair band (?) is the tie to the Challenge theme, this is still a portrait (duh). And strong rule of thumb for ports is for focus to rest on the dominant eye (the eye that captures first attention from the viewer). One more thing: This type of shot lends itself well to a softening treatment. I have a couple of techniques. If interested, drop me a note. Good concept, good composition. --Joe

Gayle, Really nice! The lighting is very natural and pleasing. Her position is lovely. I agree that I'd like just a bit more focus particularly on her eye. The image is quite beautiful...I might steal your idea for a portrait of my daughter(s)! Roberta

Gayle. That's another lovely portrait of a great model! However (*) I'm not 100% convinced about the DOF you have - I can see you have focussed on the hairbands, but that has made her face a little soft. If that was your intention, then you have succeeded (and it fits the theme) but I can't decide if it's right or not... Phil
