Hey Zack,
Do you attend Cornell? We were there last June to check out the campus. Roberta

Zack -

If I'm not mistaken, in the mid 1950's my father would receive signals from this tower to call back to the station ... far above cayuga's waters !

Wonderful shot, brought back a lot of memories.

Yeah, I've noticed pbase isn't too friendly with the downsizing compression. I guess they're more concerned with filesize than image quality. This image is not cropped at all- it is a direct resize from the original, and like you said, the detail IS there in the "original" size. You were close with you guesses- this is the famous clocktower at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. It's not really complementary colors, but it's pretty close, and very contrasty. I just liked it.

Oops, forget what I said about the detail in the tower... I had accidentally looked at the "large" (Pbase-generated) image. In the original image all the detail I was hoping for, was there! Though not a rule, I would recommend downsizing images for these challenges to be no more than 800 pixels on the long side. That way, the chances of having people look at the original are much higher. Believe me, you want people to judge your shots in the original size (the one you upload) - the image-quality really suffers in the Pbase-generated images! --Olaf

I have to agree - very nice composition and framing! No idea of where it might be, looks kind of like one of those Prestigious British Universities to me (Oxford, Eton, Harrow, Cambridge), although I have never been to any of them in real life (in fact, the only time I've been to Great Britain was once when I was only 15 years old). Is this a crop? If not, I feel that there should be more detail in in the tower (masonry and clock for example). Great architectural shot, says the architect (me)! --Olaf
