I was born in Thornton Street in 1935 so this view of the Tech is quite familiar to me. I also remember Blackburns Gents clothing shop on the corner of Gladstone street and Northgate. One day a shop worker from Blackburns was pulling down the sun awning when the pole he was using slipped out of the blind and he fell onto the busy road and was run over and killed. This must have been in the late 1940s. I remember also in the Alhambra Cinema a block of seats on the left known as the Horsebox, anybody else remember them? They were in a raised semi balcony at the side, giving an elongated view of the screen where everyone looked tall and thin.
