found on goldenrod at marble rock-cut along road between Maberly and Elphin.

Hello Heath -- I don't actually know much of anything about eradicating insects. However, I have seen mention of putting and overturned glass bowl over holes in the ground where certain hornets such as yellow-jackets have a nest. I guess that the hot sunlight and lack of access to food will kill them. I don't know how well that works, but that's one thing I've seen mentioned - bev

Judie - Your wasp was probably a Paper Wasp. It looks a bit similar to this, but is much larger. Here's a link to a page about them:
