I served on the USS New Jersey from 1986 to 1988. I remember skipper relieving Capt T. Glenn at the time. Great personality and friendly. Great guy, all around.

In the 1980's I had attempted to contact Admiral D. J. Kats to retrieve cannonballs for the frigate USS UNITED STATES, First Ship of the United States Navy. Unfortunately after several attempts we missed each other. The war in the Middle East broke out and I decided he had more important things to deal with. As a result, there still are no artifacts from the frigate. The cannonballs are still where the ship left them and could be retrievable. Contact Ed. Doug, sorry I missed your talk at WVU. Did not learn about it until I read about your visit in the student newspaper, The Daily Athenaeum. Sounds like you were a big hit with the audience. Hope to see you in the not too distant future. Bill Neal
