a tale of two hammer beam roofs - 1

this is the genuine article from late mediaeval period in St Mary's - the very end truss has most of possibly original decoration, though I much prefer the bare timber

other sizes: small medium large original auto

Both are good exposures and super photography.
Thanks for the information about the beams this is an area (Ahemm 1 of many where I know nothing ! )
Both look great works to me but thanks for the enlightenment on how things used to be done with the skills in the past.
Is the tie rod used to keep the roof from spreading or from closing due to the downward forces. ?
Rob.
