The roof is more curious than ancient or beautiful. GGS decided for some reason to use crown-posts, but neither in a C13/14th context with collar purlin, not C16th low pitch beam roof....maybe there were one or two in the heap of rubble he found and before Pugin's more scholarly revival little was know about them
