Last year I walked around Brum Uni on an Open Day and chanced upon the "Deb Hall" and the memories came flooding back - I could not believe it was over 30 years previously, that as a 14 yr old school-boy, I had been transfixed by The Cure's performance and prescence on that very stage. If you have any photos of the crowd, I was the blond-haired kid sat on the left-hand side of the stage with a look of wonder on his face. Although I had seen them the year before supporting the Banshees at Brum Odeon (I had an older brother who took me to gigs - God Bless you Phil), I was still naive enough not to recognise The Cure when we arrived early and caught a glimpse of them sound-checking. This was the gig that hooked me completely however, and will remain a pivotal moment in my appreciation of cool bands and my desire to play the bass - I wanted Robert Smith's hair and Simon Gallup's swagger!
