I took this shot standing next to a wasps nest, holding the camera about 8 inches or so from
where the nest was and where this spider had "set up shop".
In retrospect, it wasn't such a bright idea.
It was fairly early and the wasps were sluggish and dewy, but it should have occurred to me that if one wasp was out flying around enough to get itself caught, others would be as well.
I'd taken a few shots when suddenly this very dry, very alert wasp lands on the arm which was holding the camera, facing me and looking very hard into my face. Here I am, standing next to its home and just a few inches from one of its fallen comrades. I remained utterly still. Fortunately for me it decided I wasn't to blame and flew off after 20 seconds or so.
I decided I had enough pictures at that point and very slowly, very carefully made my way back inside.
I'd like to say I learned my lesson, but chances are good I'll do something
equally stupid again in pursuit of a picture.
