Don Shernoff found these gorgeous boletes growing in White Plains last week. He saved them for me to photograph. Forget for a moment that these velvety black-capped beauties are a bit 'over-the-hill.' Look especially at the one on the left. Its cap strangely appears to be buttressed by a forked stipe!
