As her parents looked on, her son handed her the new Captain's Cover just after she donned the new jacket with the stripes of a *United States Navy Captain*.

She came from humble beginnings and has 18 years in the service.
She dedicated her remarks to her mother, who, she said, was the one who always believed in her & encouraged her.
