I went to see an Endocrinologist today
I have a thyroid disease
It’s not lethal so don’t worry about or for me
I now take a pill daily and I should be back to normal in a few weeks
It could have been bad news but it was caught . . .and quite by accident
More astounding to me than how mine was discovered was that this is EXCEEDINGLY common in women and NOT routinely screened
Different statistics say 1 in 3 to 1 in 8 women are affected
Even if it’s 1 in 8 THAT’S a HECKUVA Lot of women that go undiagnosed
And symptoms are very mundane and vague . . . .things that by themselves are not noteworthy
SO . . . . ladies . . . . if you are:
Constantly fatigued
Forgetful
Have difficulty learning
Have dry, brittle hair and nails
(does your hair seem to be falling out?)
Have Dry and itchy skin
Constipated
Have sore muscles
Weight gain
Puffy face
See what I mean???
These are things that could easily just be because your 'getting older' . . .
Very nondescript “ailments” that you just put up with cuz you think it goes with the territory
Well . . may be it is
And maybe it ISN’T!!
Go get checked
It’s an incredibly simple blood test . . . a check for TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone)
If your value is over 5, it’s too high and your thyroid is not working properly
