17 MAR 05 I DONT GET IT

This is a drawer detail on the antique Singer that I have

What I don't get is that it is so out of focus
I used the tripod AND the timer so that my pressing the shutter would not cause blur

I still got blur

My 8800 has the problem too.

You need days when you're not happy with your results, so you can take photo's you're ecstatic with your photo's on other days. Anyway I like it, lovely rich tones, it looks like a burnished copper!

Weren't they fantastic machines. Love the warmth of the timber.

I like it anyway. The focus probably didn't lock given the low light. A problem with most digicams. I can see my AF assist light and aim it at some horizontal line and the camera struggles and then loses. :)

An obvious question, but did your focus lock before you depressed the shutter button all the way?

Lovely tones in the image, though.
