Maybe it's a snake who stole the missing eggs. Those guys can swallow an egg with shell and all.

there are only 5 today, so maybe she, or something else, is summarily 'helping' to reduce her work load . . .*sigh*

From my bird(ing?) experience from 7 eggs the momma bird will be lucy to keep 4 alive, cruel I know but it's how it works :( This is a wonderful find and I would still love to see more of it! If you are conserned about the Momma-bird seing you and flying away maybe some sort of camouflash (I'm SURE that's not how to spell that but the dictionary is too far away) might be appropriate!

Strange why only one egg is gone. Keep us posted.

Hope she comes back. I doubt it was because of you and the camera. They often build nests in high traffic spots and it doesn't seem to bother them. I'll be tuned in tomorrow.

Amazing nest picture. The bird is missing.

I'll sit on them?? I can do it! I wanna baby bird!
Guest 18-May-2004 01:53
How sad. I wonder if a squirrel got in the nest and chased off the mother? :(

They are so pretty ... I hate to be so pragmatic ... but if momma doesn't return drain them for decoration ... sorry :(
