Bayan Ko: A Balikbayan tour through the Philippines

Welcome home, Kababayan!

This gallery is open to those with a Balikbayan visa. In other words, it is a gallery that speaks directly to our Filipino friends who are living abroad and spend sleepless nights Googling images of the Philippines to soothe their aching pangs of homesickness.
And for those who are married to foreigners that would like to show their partners what our home looks like without a CNN or BBC logo at the top right corner.

This is a little different to the main Philippine gallery because I'm not trying to capture a postcard, instead just the real trivial things that we who live here take for granted. The stuff you never took notice of or appreciated until you left, but which has subliminally defined who you are today; like familiar buildings, places, foods, Jeepneys, tricycles, regular cars on the road, vendors, people, and well, life in general. Stuff like that.

I got the idea from regulars and members of pbase that would keep coming back to my Philippine gallery and pointing out places like the building they used to work in or where they used to eat etc. They weren't so much looking at the photograph, but the scene. Some even asked me to go out and photograph something for them specifically. Not in an artistic way, but more on a documentary style. The more real the better.

I didn’t want to mix these pictures up with my other Philippine shots (although their will be some duplicates) because they are two different approaches. Visually, I thought they would clash.

I would love to hear your comments. And if you have anyone from home that you would like to share this with, just hit the vote button.

Mabuhay!
