The Hungry Ghost Festival is held annually in Singapore during the seventh lunar month when it is said that the gates of Hell are flung open and the spirits roam the earth.
The festival features many Getai (song stage) performances for the people and spirits alike and the front row seats are traditionally reserved for the spirits, although it is becoming rarer to find the front row reserved in this way as the old traditions die out. Most getai singers perform at as many venues as they can, and can be seen rushing off to the next location as soon as their act is finished.
