When I took last one last look at my Aunt Ethel’s house last Saturday, I did recover this old tin from the cellar. It apparently once contained 4 lb (that’s about 2 kilos) of mint lozenges. I’ve never seen them being sold in such quantities, so I’m wondering if this tin originates from my Grandad’s sweet shop that he ran for a year or two before it was bombed (with no fatalities) in the Second World War.
I actually visited my aunt today in her new care home and it was a joy to see her in such wonderful surroundings. Because of family complications, I drifted away from that side of the family many years ago, but we were all glad to be to reunited again today. I’d have loved to have taken a photo of her today, but I felt I ought to get to know her more and win trust first.
She is the third relative I have been reunited with in the last five days, and I hope that I will be able to see more faces once I catch a glimpse of all the family photos that my cousin has retrieved in recent weeks.
