Way past finishing time, at 6.30pm in fact, I took some photos down the Watercress Line’s
yard at Ropley this afternoon.
This is the cab of ‘Douglas’, a steam loco built in World War II to 0-6-0 configuration (meaning it has six big wheels and no small ones front or back, three either side).
Steam railway yards, such as this, present great opportunities for the photographer, even when the trains have stopped running. If there’s one near you, try it, and watch out for all the interesting things lying about, not to mention the locomotives and carriages themselves. And of course the lines of the track against the sinking sun.
I’ve loaded two or three shots from this railway yard in my Extras Gallery
