July 8 2004:
The Day the Music Died

”I went down to the sacred store
Where I'd heard the music years before
But the man there said the music wouldn't play

And in the streets the children screamed
The lovers cried and the poets dreamed
But not a word was spoken
The church bells all were broken

And the three men I admire most
The Father Son and Holy Ghost
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died “

- Music and Lyrics by Don McLean

I drove the chevy to the levy but the levy was dry. GREAT shot and of course I love those lyrics. Did you take a lot of shots of this from different angles? Doesn't it really make you wonder what the story here is. This is definitely a rare and wonderful find.

Evokes such sadness, esp. with DM lyrics. I'll be singing it all night. Thanks for the story behind your find.

Who said black and white was dead, I like this shot for it's uniqueness. Thank you for welcoming me to Photo of the Day. I've seen some really wonderful photo's on PBase and I'm striving to produce the same… Not sure I ever will though. The main thing is I love photography and always have.

Thanks for sharing.

A little story. I saw this interesting looking barn on top of a hill, and so drove up to it. Not so photogenic as I thought, so as there was nobody around I stepped inside and photographed some broken glass panes. Then in the other half of the building I stumbled upon this old baby grand. Old autumn leaves can be seen on the right; the rest is just dust and other natural debris - the barn is now really out of use.

YES, what a treasure. Curious about the history.

Oh, Ray what a FIND!! It's lovely. Beautiful tones and composition. What is all the fuzz on it? Is that a huge dust bunch? Wow. Poor piano. Really really great shot.

THAT is a crime against humanity and . . . . pianity . . .no piano should have to suffer like that. =\

That is indeed a sad sight. You have to think & wonder why ?

This is so sad! I miss my piano!! Great job with the shot though, dusty as it may be. Can't we get that music back again??
