April 22 2004:
The Beacon

Ockham, Surrey

I had to resort to the Channel Mixer to transform today’s subject. So what have we here? This is actually the top of a VOR beacon, a key ground navigational aid in the world of air traffic control. This particular one is situated on an abandoned airfield. Don’t ask me any technical questions on this, but if you end up arriving in London-Heathrow from the south-west and have to queue for a landing slot, you may well be undertaking a circuit centred on this beacon.

the colors and different shapes makes this an interesting image..I like all those "pointie thingies"..the frame is icing on the Beacon..

Great shot.
Love the tones, but the green frame is a bit too much.

I thought it was something to do with knitting.
Good capture Ray.

Stunning color and composition! I remember hearing about beacons and VORs and what not when I played Flight Simulator back in the day, but I resorted to GPS!

Wow! I never would have known what it is without your caption, but it makes a great shot! The channel mixer effect works well for this...love the abstract linear design of it!
