April 17 2004:
Where Now?

Blackheath, Surrey

Today I decided to try and secure my PaD by the aimless drive method, something not unknown to me! My theory is that there must be hidden treasures along some country lanes in my part of the county.

After driving around for miles without good fortune, I was in the small village of Blackheath, south of Guildford, and saw this “interesting” fingerpost. It was actually displayed at a cross roads and I decided to take the route straight on, the one not even marked on the sign. Should have guessed that lead to a dead end….

What a find. In answer to your question about my map-reading: Well my Italian is a bit ropey so the village sign might well have said this!

what a clever tongue-in-cheek sense of humor this village displays . . .I'd like to see more of that . . .too many officials are too impressed with themselves

I must say that quite a few times it has felt this way!
Chose the other way, the one that is not indicated and found the right one :-)

LOL! Great subject! Kind of reminds me of the direction I'm taking in life at the moment.

Good find! I agree with Jill, this is Lewis Carroll's nonsense wit. Very Brit.

What a great sense of humor someone has, in putting up that signpost. I personally would always choose the Somewhere Else direction, and prefer walking to driving :-)

Great fine Ray - I normally go about on the same principle, had a long drive today, but ended up doing an indoor shot :-(

I'll never ask for directions in that part of the world. No telling where I'd end up.
Fun shot Ray.

Well worth the wandering. Creative of you to catch this wonderful sign. BTW, I know a guy in Georgia who named is farm house "THERE." That way when enroute anyone can say "Are we there yet" LOL

I want to go to Somewhere Else, please!!
Guest 17-Apr-2004 23:05
Great treasure you found! I love the 'aimless' method... my sons and I spend a day every other week or so driving around just seeing what's there whereever we end up.
Guest 17-Apr-2004 22:57
What an excellent find! Well worth the drive, I'd say!

I love it, I have a road sign near me in Santiago Canyon that points to "Thisa Way"! Good photo.
