Beard and Lipstick

I made a special point of asking the subject's permission to obtain this photo and they readily agreed. In return, please don't be too cruel with your comments.

utterly amazing subject. Such youth in the skin, but age in the hair. Would be interesting to sit down and chat with this chap.

Ray, Hello.
As soon as I saw this I was sure I had seen this person before - in Guildford.

When I looked up your profile and saw you live in Woking (as I do) then I knew for sure.

Small world!

Great photo, I've actually seen this guy round london, one of those faces it's hard to forget - no matter how hard I try! Keep up the good work, it's a fantastic gallery. - Tom

This picture makes me sad. I think because his skin looks young, and his hair looks so very old. I viewed lots of pictures the other day, and this is the one I remembered. Good work.

I am glad you asked his permission, I have seen quite a few photos on here lately that boarder somewhere between social comment / observation, and outright invasion of privicy. Interesting subject.. I'd like to see a transcript of the conversation though! :)

The world is a wonderful mix ... you are doing a great job of capturing the "uniqueness" of everyone.

Ray I like this shot. I don't know this man's story but I think that most people automatically make negative assumptions about people who choose to look like this. I would like to remind people that not everyone who does this sort of thing is sad or pitiful. I am not androgynous at all, yet I sometimes make a point of wearing make up and frequently wear skirts simply because I refuse to be bound by the silliness that society tries to impose. When I wear my leather jacket, black tee shirt, army boots and full length broomstick skirt it is my way of saying 'screw you, I wear what I like, not what you tell me to like'. Nobody can convincingly tell me that wearing a skirt or make up makes me any less a man than anyone else.

Again I am making an assumption, but if this man has received the amount of abuse in his life that I suspect he has, and still chooses to be himself, then my guess is that he has more courage and self-confidence than many of his detractors. Good on him, and good on you.

I don't know how I missed this one. Such sadness in this story.

This one still kills me! What a character! Looks as if he belongs in Berkeley??!!! Love it still.
