Almost 7,000 buses of this basic design were built for London Transport between 1938 and 1954.
Most of them were built by AEC and were known as the 'RT', but over 2,000 of them were built by Leyland as the 'RTL' and 'RTW'. They bowed out of service with London Transport in 1978.
