February 29 2004:
Gainsborough Tart

A glance at my mum's old cook book she got free when she bought her new cooker in the early 'fifties. I just happened to turn up the page showing an 'well tried favourite' from Lincolnshire.

The recipe for Gainsborough Tart can be seen here

Gainsborough tart, page 114, spooky! We have a copy of the same book, I've just checked the page No., some of the recipes are amazing, my favourite is on page 30, Baked Cod's Head.
When I say my favourite, I haven't tried it (and I don't want to)

Hey Ray...I'm late to the party here! But I love this. The lighting is fantastic. I have to ask, is this changed in PS or is it the way it looks? It almost looks like a sepia type finish, but it could just be the soft natrual lighting! Love the "stains" on the pages!! Nicely done!!

Interesting to see that your mum was cooking on a nuclear powered stove... so that's why you glow in the dark Ray!! (Wouldn't mind having a shot at the recipe myself) BTW excellent image Ray!

If there was ever a way to make an old cookbook look intimate, you've done it! This is wonderful! Beautiful lighting and it's very striking against the black. Well done!

Food was good in the “fifties”, it was homemade.
Good idea well carried out.
