February 25 2004:
Home Time

M3: Chobham Common, Surrey

Today I had an appointment at the district hospital and also took my car in for sevice. Given that the fuel tank in the garage's loan car was virtually empty, I took advantage of using the £5 of petrol that I put in (doesn't last TOO long in the UK)driving around for PAD's. It wasn't easy and not surprisingly this picture was taken right near the end of the tour, not far from home!
I saw a possible shot outside some tea rooms in Datchet, but got warned off by a waitress, which was typical of my day since it took ages to park the car there!
This was a spot I was planning to visit for a motorway shot at sunset or for light trails, so hopefully I will return at some point.

Very nice shot.

Hmm, just about typifies English motorways! Datchet? That's just down the road from me, but I hate driving around it because it's full of speed humps!

This is great. It's got contrast, and sparkle, and layers of tones giving depth. An altogether good shot Ray.

This shot does indeed have great lighting and works exceptionally well in B&W
Guest 26-Feb-2004 22:30
I love this shot - beautiful lighting, especially the pinpoints of reflected light. I used to do this commute every day (Sandhust - Ealing - Sandhust via the M3) and I don't miss it one bit...

I am *so* glad I don't have to do this of an evening, although in yesterday's case, I would say it was well worth YOU doing it. Really great shot, especially managing to catch the sunlight in this bitter cold week!

This is simply bad driving. Look, there is room for another four cars in the middle lane. How people expect to clogg up the roads and cause shunts if they are not prepared to fill up the road is beyond me!

There, I feel much better now. I have spent three days of struggling into London along the M4 this week. Each day I have given up and pulled into the nearest town to catch the train - have spent close to £100 on parking and train tickets so far!

Nice pic.

Super photo!! Lots of congestion though, some things don't change no matter where you go :)

The sparkles are superb!

Great capture of 'the commute.' And this IS a good vantage point. They're hard to find around here without breaking the law.

Wow, lots of trouble for this shot, but this is a GREAT shot...I really like it. Not too sure why, but it strikes me more than other freeway shots I've seen.

Very nice.
Kind of gritty.

cool shot Ray, love all the twinklings sunlights on the cars

I love the way a long lens foreshortens an image.
Well done Ray.

Did you come all the way to the New Jersey Turnpike to take this shot? :) I see rush hour is the same nightmare everywhere.
Guest 25-Feb-2004 20:29
Very nice image Ray - I see you went when it was quite?? ;))
Guest 25-Feb-2004 20:08
You overdid the Photoshop on this one Ray. You flipped it horizontally and now everyone is on the wrong side of the road. Gets an "I hate traffic" vote.

Hope all went well at the hospital:-)

Glad I wasn't there!
Guest 25-Feb-2004 19:32
I love the back lighting! Well done.
Gregg Morris25-Feb-2004 19:30
It does look like a good place for a sunset/low light shot. Don't forget your "Men at Work" sign! :)
Paul Walters25-Feb-2004 19:30
I love the back lighting! Beautifully done!

A classic Ray.

gggrrrrrr - I HATE this place!
Guest 25-Feb-2004 19:07
Love the contrast here, and those great sunspots!! Nice you have sunny skies today!!! It's PEEING down here!!!
virginiacoastline25-Feb-2004 18:39
yup, I think Ray should put up "men working" sign, set up the tripod, stop traffic & just wait for the perfect sunset & lights-on picture. NO problem!
Ian Chappell25-Feb-2004 18:36
Nice one Ray! Does need another visit though (at dusk) and don't forget to take your tripod!
Guest 25-Feb-2004 18:27
Excellent shot!! I like how the center lane has a few gaps between the cars -- adds interest and contrast. Lovely! -- angela :)
Guest 25-Feb-2004 18:25
Nice, looks like our beltway :)
Guest 25-Feb-2004 18:24
Sorry didn't see the title ect.
Guest 25-Feb-2004 18:22
where were you Ray, thats all I saw as well, like the contrast.
Jill25-Feb-2004 18:21
Eight stars shimmering..like the gleam and shine of the road. Appears to be every morning route in America as well.
Guest 25-Feb-2004 18:20
Looks like the suns out for you today. I love the way the sun is beaming off the roofs of the cars. Very nice Ray!
