February 11 2004:
Back to the Future

Two or three years ago I bought a pile of old aviation magazines from the 1950's. Some were 'Air Pictorial' and some 'RAF Flying Review', the latter being a magazine aimed at servicemen. It is interesting to look back at these old issues to see what was being reported and how. Anyway, I was browsing through them recently and came across this article in the February 1954 issue of Flying Review. It told a story of how someone thought the Royal Air Force might be like today, 11 February 2004. I just had to do a PAD on this even if it probably is copyright material, although the magazine ceased publication about 30 years ago.

The main photo here shows a 'space-bomber' (whatever one of those was going to be!)on its launch pad. I've included two more pictures from this article here in my 'Extras gallery, along with some fascinating advertisments of the time, as well as the magazine's front cover.
Enjoy!

Wow, that's great too look back and wonder why they thought what they did.
Looks like the RAF has some catching up to do...=)

Great find. And in a similar spirit of space exploration, 1954 Fender launced the Stratocaster (see my pic today). And Strats are just the same 50 years later!

This is great Ray, thanks for sharing. Like Jeanne, I find the adverts most interesting. I recently did some work at the premises of our local newspaper and had access to the archived copies that go back 150 years. Interesting to read the news and adverts and my birth announcement from all those years ago!
