February 3 2004:
REALLY Hot Stuff!

You may have noticed that I don't often do 'kitchen shots' but tonight was a bit different. After little deliberation, I decided to skip dessert after seeing my microwave containing much smoke, but very little Christmas Pudding.

as far as I can see, the xmas pudding is in a metal container... you can't put metal in microwaves... but it looks very pretty and despite eating it... you can always contemplate the art work!

I've never seen anything like this come out of a microwave!

I've never seen anything quite burned like this in a microwave, Ray. LOL!

Thanks for the recipe Ray! It looked lovely, the photo and all the ingredients... until I looked up what suet is : )

LOL! :) Is this one of those instant pudding cups? :) Very neat shot, but poor pudding :)

OMG, I wouldn't eat that cake LOL but it made a great picture.

Hot stuff indeed. Ray, if you've got a window in your microwave I've got an idea for you. Set a CD, write side up inside your microwave on something microwave safe, like a small glass or something. Turn off the lights and run on high for 5 seconds. You'll have to be quick to get the shot but it's pretty cool (or hot).

Now I am asking what nobody did: How could you clean the mess???++
But artistic, it is :-)

Where in the instructions on the packet does it say "Heat until reaches melting point"?! I once forgot, that when I went to soften some butter in it's foil packaging that I shouldn't have done it. There were some very pretty arching effects for about 3 seconds before I leapt back to the door to prevent more damage!
Funny shot, Ray!

Well, the plus side is that you created a great piece of abstract art, almost non-intentionally! Love the photo!

And I thought the thumbnail was a piece of chocolate cake :)

Ray, when I make it to England, can we go out to eat? I fear your culinary skills are not as good as your photography... (Don't worry, mine aren't either!! I chopped off a chunk of my finger 2 weeks ago trying to make a lame potato dish!)

Robin, it should look like this! Obviously not a Florisa dish!
Carol, Jill is just teasing about it being metal!
robin statfeld04-Feb-2004 00:09
Yikes! From the thumbnail I thought it might be nutella on toast LOL. So, what is Christmas Pudding, or more importantly, what is it SUPPOSED to look like? : )

Doesn't look too appetizing now, Ray. Was your microwave "toasted"? That's not REALLY a metal container, is it? In any case, your PAD photo, although unappetizing, has succeeded in striking a chord in all of us kitchen helpless folk. Who says good photos can't come from destroyed dessert messes?
Guest 03-Feb-2004 23:44
Good thing you caught this before it flamed!! I'll bet it smelled ghastly!
Ray :)03-Feb-2004 22:37
Hey Jill, it was plastic and as Ian might have said, it just 'chernobyled'!
Ian Chappell03-Feb-2004 22:26
Just come back for another laugh at this one, sorry again!! LOL!! Question: Do all MWaves come with a "Nuke" button?? LOL!!
Jill03-Feb-2004 22:22
Ray: Lesson #2 (Ians was the 1 lesson)

Do not put metal container in microwave.;)

Now I can laugh!
Ian Chappell03-Feb-2004 22:15
LOL!! Had to laugh at this one, sorry Ray... and I thought it was me doing the Hot Stuff this week!!... Tip: Light the brandy and pour over the pudding AFTER it comes out of the MWave!!
