August 24 2003: Peacock Dancer

Today I went to the Amazing Thailand Festival at Milford. Its organised by the Mudita Trust which aims to eradicate child prostitution back in Thailand. This girl was part of a dancing troup performing the newly choreographed "Peacock Dance", and a photo or two just had to be taken!

Thank you Dennis - glad you found my galleries. I've already cropped this quite a bit for more impact but see where you're 'coming from'. I have not cropped it more as I wanted to get many of the feathers in to the left and if I crop it to the line of the crown as well I will end up with an image which is to 'narrow' for my taste. For pictures of indivduals I prefer a portait format of say 4x3, failing that roughly sqaure. I don't find the sky in the corner too distracting as I think the girl's face and costume are much more powerful than that. But thank you for your viewpoint, which I value. ~~~Ray.

A heartwarming shot. I especially like your choice of angle which uses gentle sidelighting to bring out the best in the dancer's face and costume. The brighter tones of the dancer and costume against the darker tones of the feather background adds greater dimensionality to your photo and emphasis to the main subject. Do you think that cropping just above the tips of the dancer's crown to eliminate the sky in the upper corner would heighten the dancer's visual impact? Very well done.

Thank you Paul and Elizabeth. Its nice to have positive comments, especially from people with a good eye themselves! Incidentally, I did not need to tilt the camera as the girl obliged instead - a good tip though! Ray

I love the way you framed her, tilting the camera rather than shooting dead on. Great image!

I love this! Great colors and beautifully captured moment! The expression on the girl's face shows she's having a good time, and makes the viewer smile with her!
