July 25

I'm taking a class over at www.ppsop.com on photoshop called "Controlling Weather & Mastering Light in Photoshop"...this is one of the images I've messed around with for the first week's assignment. Subtle changes, but effective I think. I'm open to opinions. I may be posting another later in the week. (although it's not part of the class, I decided to clone out that pole in the background because I just didn't like the darned thing there....a Purist, I am not.)

To me, its a great improvement (also the cloning out of the pole). Woudl be interesting to know what you did to get that result (well of course not in detail, but the main steps).

Thanks, Chuck for sharing the link and the before-and-after effect. LOL... I'm a nitpicker and hence totally agree on your choice of cloning out the pole :-))) Though I like the warm feel of the after one, I tend to go for the softer natural look in the before one. A matter of preference I guess. Thanks again for the valuable lesson learnt.

Thanks for the comments. I agree Norman that the contrast on the face is a bit much and should be pulled back a bit. Glad to hear that feedback.

Of course , the after one is more eye catching and the removal of the pole is really an improvement. However, I think its only different moods presented. Personally, I kinda prefer the mood in the before one.

great job, chuck. you've showed that no picture should be left un-processed. i feel pressing the shutter is just half-job done. the other half will be done in the darkroom or PS until the final output.

you've done great in increasing the contrasts and removing the pole. i just feel the contrasts on her face is a bit too much. hence, the skin color is a bit too saturated. perhaps, you can separately process the background and the lady. just my 2 cents.

cheers,
norman.

It's a warmer picture and the detail really comes out.

The joy of the digital darkroom! Its amazing how an image can be transformed. Super work.

Oh yeah, the "after" is much better. Love the golden colors. And I would have cloned out the pole, too ~ it was a bit distracting and too close to the girl. Good job.

well done, indeed!

This is really cool and really great to share this kind of stuff. What a great entry for a PAD. Do they also teach the application of weather in the style of Melancholy (tm)?

BIG improvement. Love the "after" image. Very warm light and deep, rich colors. I don't see where you cloned out the pole though. Anyway . . . I probably would have done the same because I'm not a purist either. :-)
