Alright, it is true after all what has been said about dogs and children, they do steal the scene. I have been trying to imagine this picture with a mangy looking dog but the effect would have been the same, not an image of melancholy, but a different story about a dog.

I think, the dog is too 'dominant', if he would be a smaller part of the picture, it would be perfect imo!

This one is a tough one for me. I like the photo (although would propose a slightly tighter crop at the bottom - again, personal taste) but I don't find it fills me with feelings of melancholy. The problem could be that I have seen pictures of your dog before (which I adore) and find it hard to dissociate my familiarity from this photo (or the photographer). Will definitely be coming back and see how it feels again in a day.
