My "new"(old) trumpet
Just got it yesterday here is the story behind it.
The Conn Vocabell was about as far ahead of its time as you can get! As you'll notice in the photo's this instrument has a very unique art deco look. The material used was overall fairly heavy. The valve blocks were machined out of some pretty beefy solid materials. The bell was spun from a very heavy gauge brass allowing the trumpet to wear without fear of damage it's very unique and eye catching 'rimless' bell. You may notice the unique waterkeys even demonstrate forward thinking. This instrument simply is the poster child for 'They don't make them like they used to.'
Everything about the build on these vintage Vocabell trumpets screams 'Quality', but above all else, these Vocabell's are superb playing trumpets. The bore size is very comfortable (.458") Given the heavy weight design the instruments project quite nicely. They are very resonant and slot amazingly well. It's hard if not impossible to overblow this instrument, although at soft dynamics it holds up incredibly well. The sound is very rich and dark.
