Thomas Lett Hackett monument at Mount Royal Cemetery in Montreal.
Thomas Hackett was attacked, beaten, and shot to death on July 12, 1877. The perpetrators were a gang of religious thugs. Their goal was to set an example by doing harm to anyone returning to work or home from a religious service of thanksgiving for religious freedom. Who the victim was did not matter to them.
