Christmas Lights on the Overhead Bridge

This is downtown Booneville, Mississippi - my home town. In the foreground is a bridge over a railroad track which runs left to right (and right to left!) underneath this bridge. When I was growing up here, we simply called this "The Overhead Bridge" because it was the only one in town. Years ago, Don Lee Keith (a Booneville native who moved on to become a respected journalist at the Times Picayune in New Orleans and was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize twice) was talking with an acquaintance who had just returned from a visit to Paris, France. The acquaintance kept going on and on about how beautiful the Eiffel Tower was. And Don Lee finally replied that "You’ve not seen anything ’til you’ve seen the Overhead Bridge at night!"

You picked a good time of the night to capture this - dark enough to have the xmas lights show well, and still light enough to get the bridge and background town in. I like it.

I know how he could have shut down her pipes as fast as superglue sticks to skin, all he had to do say to her “show me a photo of the tower at night so I can see for myself”. Heh, heh heh....... Paul

Thanks, Traveller, for your kind words. I did not use a tripod ... this is handheld. I did use a little trick where you take the camera off single-shot mode and shoot a burst of 3 or 4 images with one press of the shutter release. That way there is a good chance that at least one of the shots will be sharper than the others. I wish I had removed the protective filter from the front of the camera lens ... I got a little bit of flare from the street light. You can see it a little higher up the light pole.

Your ISO 3200 seems better than mine...This has very good density...so nicely done and remembered.

Did you use a tripod, or is this handheld?

Thanks
