Thanks, all. I considered removing that sun dog but left it in because it conveys just how bright the Antarctic sun is. I really regretted forgetting my sun glasses a few days later on Petermann Island.
My son took what I believe was an even better shot with his T2i (the judges agreed, as it won a Scholastic award). His has a starburst rather than a sun dog.
By the way, passengers were encouraged to try pulling the ship using the rope at left. It was an outstanding trip, with many special moments. I recommend that everyone able to do so take the opportunity to journey to Antarctica.
All I can say is WoW, what a shot, perfect angle. But I would have been highly tempted to (no I would have done it) clone out that sun dog in the upper right. Paul
