Coming in For a Landing

Boulder, CO

I was walking around a local lake today, hoping to spot something wild. This eagle flew around a little, but even with my lens at 400mm (70-200 + 2X extender), it was pretty small in the frame. This is a 100% crop, processed with Topaz.
I'll put the plain Lightroom processed version in pending.
Edit: I put the more heavily processed version in pending, and replaced it with a lighter version, still with some Topaz processing, but much less this time.

Spectacular subject and the pose of the eagle is perfect. Michael

I like this version best. I'm still not sure either about the Topaz (which module?) I loike the LR version (assuming the same crop as here). It appears to need more local contrast and clarity on the bird.

Much Better! A striking and pleasing image that catches the attention. Traveller

This is a differently processed version, with a much lighter touch, and the lakeshore cropped out. I've put the other version in pending, along with the plain Lightroom processed version.

Thanks Traveller. I was undecided about the river bank. I'm also still trying to decide whether I like the Topaz effect. The problem I have is that this is a 100% crop, so there's not a lot of latitude for processing. I'll play around a bit more, and maybe put a differently processed version in its place.

Unless of course you want to be kind of a pointillism sort of image (see Seurat)...and so maybe turn it up even higher?

I have a few thoughts...(if you like)...I would crop out the brown top river bank...if only because the transition line is so harsh....I almost like your version in pending better...the topaz, for me, seems a little turned up too high...again, producing hard edges...maybe in DPP4, some contrast, +shadows, -highlights, some saturation....and then fine tune in again....just a little in lightroom, (which I don't have or understand).

But this can be a phenomenal picture I think.
