Nice timing and the high shutter speed has captured the detail in the flapping bird's wing beautifully. Michael

Very nice capture. I think the early morning light can be confusing in the color and brightness. The left wing really sets the tone for the whole photo.
This could be played with a lot, varying a lot of the tones and luma levels to change the overall look and feel.
But I like this version a lot, great detail, and the soft light of early morning.

The detail is simply amazing so it's probably the color that is throwing me off. Paul.

I guess I processed it more or less the way I remember it looking that morning.
I took this shot early, maybe a half an hour after sunrise, thus the yellowish hue.
I used center weighted metering, so basically I metered off of the brightest part of the wing.
I don't know, ice, snow, mist coming up from the water, white subject, I think you
have to leave the exposure down a bit to avoid hot spots and making everything
so bright that a lot of the details are lost.
It's probably just personal preference on the processing.

I love the detail but it seems under exposed by about a full stop. Is that how you preserve the detail in this kind of scene? Paul

Dear Dave: This is a wonderful capture with good action and still maintains the elegance of these fine beasts. Traveller
